The Peniel Project was founded on the initiative of Pastor Philip Asamoah from Ghana and a circle of friends from various churches.

Philip Asamoah lives in London with his family. He is a pastor; his wife Anna (who passed away in 2021) was a teacher.
Born in Akyem Maase, Ghana, he has never been able to shake off the plight of his homeland.
As a result, he regularly returns to his homeland every year to drive forward planning and implementation, to encourage people and to empower them to get involved.

Carol Schavet has been working on the project in Maase since 2004. She gave up her home in Wisconsin, USA, to be on site full-time for the project.
Without seeking the limelight, her presence on the project is invaluable. Many things simply fall into place because she is there. It is important to her to pray for the children and the staff.

Since around 2003, a circle of friends has been growing in Germany, which has been actively supporting the work of the MPPMI e.V. association since 2009. It supports the project by providing information, donations and sponsorships. Members of the circle of friends regularly visit the project on site, maintain contacts and help with specific tasks. This includes collecting and dispatching relief supplies, purchasing and shipping the two minibuses, as well as managing the sponsorships. In November 2015, two members surveyed the buildings on site and subsequently drew up a site development plan and the construction plans for the new school building.

The board of the MPPMI e.V. association works on a voluntary basis and is responsible in Germany for managing donations, sponsorships and other support. It also organises meetings at which the founder and driving force behind the project, Reverend Philip Asamoah, stays in touch with the Friends.
